Course Description
The Diploma of Community Welfare Work is designed to equip students with the skills, knowledge and understanding to work in the community welfare sector in service delivery to clients, in a wide variety of settings.On successful completion of this program, graduates will be able to provide a holistic approach to client needs including social, emotional, psychological and practical support. They also develop knowledge and skills of specific client needs and the operation of the community welfare sector.

Careers in community welfare work are both demanding and highly rewarding.Those seeking to work in community welfare should enjoy working with people and understand the nature of social disadvantage. Desirable qualities for community welfare work are tolerance, empathy, flexibility and well-developed interpersonal skills.

The community welfare sector provides successful students with a wide variety of career opportunities. The course has national accreditation, which is recognised throughout Australia.

Community welfare graduates can apply for positions in the following Government and non-government organisations.

Entry Requirements:
To gain entry into this course, participants should have successfully completed year 12 or equivalent level of studies.

English Language Entry Requirements:

  • An IELTS score of 5.5 is required for entry into this program.
  • Practical Placement
  • One of the requirements of the course is to complete 400 hours of compulsory work placement where practical experience is gained. This placement is a requirement of the course.
  • Exemption and Credit Transfers (RPL /RCC)
  • Students may be granted RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) or RCC (Recognition of Current Competence) if they are able to demonstrate that they have achieved the level of skills and knowledge equivalent to the course they seek credit for through work experience, through life or similar study at another institution. Students can apply for RPL / RCC at the time of enrolment.

Course Fees
The total tuition fee for the complete course is AUD 16950.00, which is divided in 4 Semesters. At the time of enrolment the student has to pay AUD 4237.50.

Mode of study
This course is delivered in a classroom-based environment with practical requirements simulated to reflect the training requirements. The delivery of training will include a mixture of face-to-face teaching, lectures, workshop delivery, group discussions, field trips, supervised practical sessions, and individual research.

Assessment
The assessment process will include oral, written and practical presentations, workplace projects and real life simulations. A part of the assessment will also take place at the workplace, where students are on practical placements.
